Rob is correct, We ( Griffith Indiana FD ) have been Chrome Yellow since the early 80s.

The one in Papineau came from Glenside Fire Protection District. Whether or not another dept had it before they did, I don’t know.

I thought one of the engines was a refurb too, I believe it ended up In Papineau in Iroquois County south of St. Anne

Griffith, IN still runs an all yellow fleet.

Mike L – The Glenbrook snorkle refurb couldnt have been much later than that as Glenbrook FPD’s stations, personnel, and apparatus were merged into the Village of Glenview’s FD in 1992.

Rarely see yellow rigs in the chicago area anymore. Elmhurst is down to two golden yellow rigs, Hinsdale is down to one black/yellow rig, York Center moved away from their lime green rigs awhile ago, and now Lisle-Woodridge will be getting a red engine and ambulance soon! Clarendon Hills still holding down the yellow!

I’ll dare say that those are late ’70’s to mid ’80’s PIERCE rigs.

Thanks for sharing, Ron. The snorkel in the picture is after its refurb. It was originally a Ford C cab with no jumpseats. I believe it was refurbished in 88 or 89 to meet the updated NFPA specs.
