2002 Seagrave, 100′ ladder truck w/ 1500 gpm Waterous pump. Truck was taken out of service in June of 2024 due to delaminating frame members and would not pass annual certification process. The ladder was refurbished in 2018 and the hydraulic system was replaced in 2019. Not able to function as “fire department” vehicle but may be used for parts or other uses. It seems like frame cracks or corrosion have become a common reason for removing apparatus from service. It’s not clear whether this is due to quality control issues with newer apparatus or simply reflects more rigorous inspection procedures identifying problems that in the past might have gone undetected. If this is what it takes to take a truck out of service in the suburbs, at least half the dam city trucks should’ve been taken out of service years ago!
