If a little giant little ladder makes its way onto a fire apparatus it should only be used on non-emergency service calls i.e. changing old peoples smoke detector batteries but never on the fireground. They have less than a half of the 750 lb weight rating of a fire service ground ladder and the “elbow” joint” makes them a huge liability when used as a straight ladder. Fire service ladder manufacturers make many “jack-knife” or “combination” type ladders that can be used as an A-frame or straight ladder. They have a 750 lb rating, a very short stowed length and would even fit in a HME RAT. We carried a combination A-frame/extension ladder it was a great length for the upper level windows of split levels and raised ranches and handy as a 7′ A-Frame.

well yes there is some plastic parts but that is a very solid ladder for a couple hundred many fire depts already use it chicago fd in fact has them on the crash rigs at ord and maybe midway if it can work for a big city it can work in a little dept like lincolnshire

Yep, you are absolutely right Hairy. A Little Giant Ladder (and all of its plastic parts!) is absolutely a replacement for a 35 foot ladder…or a 28 footer…or heck it’ll even do the job of a 16 foot roof ladder! You’re spot on. It’ll save a lot of compartment space on truck company builds, too!

Michael that’s exactly what they were thinking. There are some tight areas in their fire district and the RAT was an idea. The only issues I heard was you couldn’t keep regular sized ladders and it lost the front compartment. It did what it was supposed to do.

I wonder what the thinking behind purchasing the HME RAT was. Were they expecting to have to go into narrow driveways? 70K miles for a 10-year-old engine is not bad. I did see the 2012 Engine and the 2003 Squad for sale. Both rigs look like they were well cared for. I agree they tried to copy an FDNY cab.

they were suppose to sell it its a shame because i have never seen an f 150 be longer than a full size fire engine but last i saw a picture on fb on one of those fire truck broker sites it had almost 70 000 miles for a 10 year old engine

Wouldn’t be surprised if they sold the HME RAT. Weird purchase didn’t work out at all.

Micheal M, I have seen listings for their old squad, small HME engine, and Arrow XT engine that this is replacing on the new fire apparatus website “Garage”. I want to say I recall seeing one of the dashes for sale too but I can’t say for certain.

Which rig are they going to sell? I am guessing they will keep their memorial engine. Will they sell the Arrow XT? Do they still have both old Pierce Dashes?

Looks like they tried to copy an fdny engine cab with the corner mirror, bumper markers, lightbars and decals. I dunno about this one…
