Harry, perhaps the FD stuck a ton of money into it and kept it in great repair.
Please don’t fall into the “things were better in the old days” mindset. I’m almost 61 and remember in the 1970’s as a kid people were pinning for the old days about things being better. True that some products are of better quality than others and you get what you pay for. Remember, the world has had problems forever.

Well Harry the new owners probably put a ton of money into it and took proper care of it. Please don’t get into the trap missing the so called good old days. I’m almost 61 and remember as a youngster people pinning for the old days 50 years ago and saying that they don’t build things right anymore. If you take good care of a vehicle, it will take good care of you. Yes some builders are better than others.

Anybody that believes that the original mileage after 40 years needs their heads examined.

I’ll see if i still have the info from when they had it posted on marketplace on FB…but they spent over 20k to do a refurbishment and it may be low milage due to being repowered.

Not one of my favorite chassis at least it was easy to exit the cab sort reminds me of a low rider hopefully it will serve them well it is surprising about the mileage that’s suburban apparatus numbers!

This needs to go to a museum!

I am surprised how few miles it has on it for how old it is. The CFD has had to beat their current rigs into the ground. I am surprised this one still runs and can pump after 40 years!

Harry, do you think Chicago should buy this one back and put it in service again? It’s only eight years older than the one at the surplus auction and looks to be in much better shape!
