Excertps from Westmont.illinois.gov:
The village has scheduled a Fire Department Tour & New Facility Presentation for Tuesday, May 13 at the Johanik Fire Department Headquarters, 6015 S. Cass Avenue. The public is invited to attend and participate. At 5:30 p.m., there will be a short tour of the facility, which will highlight various concerns including inefficiencies and structural design flaws of the current building. Following the tour, there will be a presentation by the village reviewing the growth of the fire department, the facility needs of the department, the challenges of the current building, and costs related to the project. After the presentation, residents will be invited to ask additional questions and share their feedback regarding the project.
“Our village was dramatically different in 1991 when the current facility was completed,” says Fire Chief Steve Riley. “Since then, our fire station locations were reduced from 3 to 2, and our call volume has quadrupled. Compared to other communities that have more fire stations to serve a similar call volume, our station at 6015 S. Cass simply needs more space to accommodate the equipment and personnel required to adequately serve the citizens of Westmont. I invite the entire community to come on this tour and take part in this presentation and discussion so that we can share this important information regarding the delivery of emergency services for our residents and business community.”
