Who cares……it’s a nice truck. Hopefully they have good luck with it. Our Eones have been great.

Hey that would work with E-ONE too. 🙂

Yeah, it does get a bit ridiculous, especially when departments try to put out a specification bid that only their desired manufacturer can meet. There’s a great story of one department that included in the spec “manufacturer’s name must be included on all mud flaps with a raised oval surrounding the manufacturer’s name” in a clear attempt to only have Pierce be the manufacturer that could meet this. Well, as a result, there is a Seagrave truck company out on the east coast that has Seagrave written on all of its mud flaps with an oval encircling the name, I wish I could post a picture here it’s amazing.

Almost every department, city and suburb, uses buying cooperatives like HGAC so they can buy whatever they want without going out to bid. And a place like Downers isn’t going to go with something they don’t want. They decided they wanted an E-One and they went with it. Good for them. Sticking to one manufacturer just because that’s what the rest of the fleet is doesn’t necessarily mean you’re getting what you want.

Most municipalities don’t send their apparatus out for public bid anymore. Or they spec the rig so tight that only a specific apparatus builder can quote the truck. I saw a McHenry spec recently. It’s hardcore Pierce. Unless the spec changes, no other apparatus builders stand a chance with McHenry other than Pierce. It’s just the game municipalities play so they get what they want.

Chicago played that “build to specification” bid nonsense back in the 1980’s and the only company capable of building to their specs was E-One. One of the reasons that major manufacturers stopped bidding on Chicago purchases was that stupidity and gamesmanship.

No one said it wasn’t, FFPM. Just because a truck is built to a specification and “met their needs” doesn’t mean it wasn’t then also the one specifically purchased because it was the low bid. More than one manufacturer in a bid process can meet a specification and successfully design a truck that meets a department’s needs.

I love when buffs make assumptions on what they think they know. The rig was designed and spec’d by a committee and this met their needs..

Most likely it is a result of the lower bid. Some departments are almost defiantly loyal to one builder or another for decades while others just buy whatever. There are many advantages to taking generic approaches but then again, standardization certainly isn’t a bad thing either since there’s no time wasted to learn something new and different.

Love the E-One and looks cool, though I prefer the rock solid HP95 over the HP100. Hope it serves them well and leads to more orders.

Is the lack of brand loyalty a result of low bidder or other reasons?

These guys have ZERO brand loyalty. I love it! Lol
