From the timesvirginian.com:
The Appomattox Volunteer Fire Department (AVFD) is excited to announce plans to replace its 21-year-old ladder truck with a 2014 Pierce Arrow XT, which will be refurbished to align with AVFD’s fleet and operational needs. This new addition will greatly enhance the department’s ability to protect the lives and property of the Appomattox community.
The AVFD Truck Committee has been conducting a search for a suitable replacement for the aging 2003 ladder truck. Given the high cost of new vehicles and extended delivery times, the committee shifted its focus to finding a reliable pre-owned truck. The committee identified the 2014 Pierce Arrow XT as an ideal solution and traveled to inspect the vehicle. After presenting their findings to the department, AVFD voted to proceed with the purchase, contingent on funding approval from the County of Appomattox and the Town of Appomattox.
On Dec. 16, AVFD Fire Chief Jonathan Garrett presented the plan to the Appomattox County Board of Supervisors, requesting a $450,000 interest-free loan. The board unanimously approved the funding. The following evening, on Dec. 17, Garrett and department representatives pitched the proposal to the Town Council, which unanimously agreed to contribute $300,000 to the project.
The truck, priced at $650,000, will undergo a comprehensive refurbishment to ensure it meets AVFD’s operational standards and matches the appearance of the department’s existing fleet. Excess funding provided by the town will be allocated toward equipping the truck with necessary tools and mounting equipment.
“This refurbished truck represents a practical and cost-effective solution for updating our fleet and ensuring we can continue to provide exceptional service to our community, while remaining good stewards of our funding,” Garrett said. “We are grateful for the overwhelming support from both the county and the town in making this critical purchase possible.”
The 2014 Pierce Arrow XT offers modern capabilities and will serve as a valuable asset in addressing the growing demands of the Appomattox community. Its refurbishment will not only extend its lifespan but also ensure that it integrates seamlessly into AVFD’s operations.
AVFD extends its heartfelt thanks to the Appomattox County Board of Supervisors, the Town Council, and the residents of Appomattox for their continued support and dedication to public safety.
thanks Martin

Addison got a deal with this. They probably paid between 8-900k and sold it for 650k after 10 years.
