MABAS 21 – I agree with consistency, but when it comes to cosmetic consistency, I really don’t think it’s very important to follow this protocol.
However, I do think it’s important to have a uniform fleet in the sense of day to day operation, and layout. I’m also a proponent for a uniform fleet for the maintenance personnel. Chicago has a more uniform fleet now than they’ve had in many years but they still have a ton of different stuff. In conversation with the guys at FM, it’s a nightmare narrowing down precise needs when a rig goes down in the field. I find uniformity so important for the maintenance staff for obvious reason. When the rig needs service, it’s nice to know, you don’t have to narrow down what wheel and tire goes with what rig, or what pump primer is needed to get the rig back in service.

I an happy to see Milwaukee receiving much needed fleet upgrades. However, I know it’s trivial, but find it bizarre that none of their new fleet matches. Some aerials and pumpers have white stripes, others have black stripes. The midmounts have either red aerials or black aerials. The new ambulances are solid red with white or black stripes or gun metal over red. Again, I know colors are trivial, but when you are purchasing new apparatus the goal is for some type of uniformity and
consistency.
