I suspect that the cost to paint the wheels may not be that much less than the cost of the OEM aluminum wheel option. I’ve heard it said that aluminum wheels may help dissipate brake heat and can be easier to balance. Stainless steel wheel inserts are often accused of being the cause of some vibration concerns. Not that anyone’s opinion really matters, but the Red wheels do look good on this unit. At least they didn’t waste THOUSANDS of taxpayer dollars to achieve the “blacked out” look.

Other than looks, what good do they do. Many make a credible argument for fuel savings. But emergency vehicles just make short trips around town often with the pedal to the floor so I doubt aluminum wheels would make much difference anyway.

Are chrome wheels that expensive especially for a wealthy suburb like Highland Park?
