Crabby, you are correct. We purchased a used 1966 Chevy pumper (built out by Howe) from Long Grove FPD in 1986 and refurbed it in house. It served well for another decade. The admin has a lovely photo of it, I believe.

FORD was by far the most popular commercial chassis for apparatus of this type but GM held it’s own with CHEVROLET/GMC. Attractive example here and obviously this one has a V8 engine.
