Excerpts from CBSnews.com:
A fire Wednesday at Pier 11 Marina on the city’s Far South Side caused serious damage to at least four boats, and damages will most likely surpass $1.1 million.
It was around 10 a.m. when crews with the Chicago and Dolton fire departments responded to the marina at 826 E. 138th St. – along the Little Calumet River on the southern boundary of the city. Fire crews found three boats on fire.
As firefighters attempted to put out the flames, the fire spread to a fourth boat. The fire was started when a recreational boat owner was attempting to winterize his boat, a process that involves placing a plastic cover over the boat which is sealed in by heat. That owner was using a propane tank – and at some point, his boat caught fire.
Among the casualties was a historic vessel used in tours along the Chicago River that was owned and operated by Chicago First Lady cruises and its sister line, Mercury Cruises.
From ChicagoFDMedia on Twitter:
Marina fire 824 East 138. Two boats. Companies have been pouring water for hours. Dolton responded first realized it’s Chicago and called CFD but stayed on scene with aerial unit to help pour on water. Fire may have started from winter sealing mishap

Tom and Mike you’re both spot on. To Tom’s comment though, any financial assistance these towns get, they sure as hell don’t spend it on the fire depts.
It’s funny how many guys on this site are unfamiliar with the south suburbs, the fire duty they get, and the manpower they don’t have. I’m mainly talking about Division 24 but 27 is just as bad.
But all these single station division 24 depts. with 2 engines, 2 ambulances and a truck company, a chief, a deputy chief and their administrative staff and crap manpower, just seems ripe for a consolidation.

Tim, sad but true.
What’s Harvey staffing today? Do they have 2 or 3 houses open?
Mike, most of these town boards are incompetent and corrupt.

Tim as you probably know there isn’t a lot of money in that division. Most towns are struggling to stay afloat financially. It would be nice if this state had some sort of financial assistance for poorer communities to help fund services

I think that will buff out….

It’s ironic, I guess, or sad, there’s more manpower on CFD Engine 80 (who was suppling the Dolton Tower) than there is in the majority of Division 24 firehouses.
