Dennis – The Bourbannais rig with the all wheel steer has been problematic for a very long time. The maintenance and issues they have aren’t recent.

Austin, I’m sorry your feelings got hurt over my computer response.
As for having a say in what a department buys yes you are that taxpayers have a right to have a say and that say is in who you elect as your local politicians. As for something with a track record of being bad you can not use posts on here as examples of track records. For as many people who say something is bad there are people who say it’s good.

Austin u are right about saying tax payers should have a day but only if u pay taxes in that particular town village or city

Dennis but it does matter what kind of suspension it has, or what other options a department chooses. As a tax payer WE are paying for apparatus, and if our money is being spent on something that has a bad track record, we should have a say and should speak up. Apparatus today costs a fortune, so dropping well over a million dollars on a ladder should be bought with longevity in mind, as well as thinking about the maintenance on it for 15-20 years. You are being overly aggressive and confrontational for zero reason.

Is McCook still non-union contract ff/pms? If so I guess they joined the unfortunate suburban club of enjoying new shiney toys instead of properly staffed, union labor. Sad

Some of us are apparatus fans and care about the specs since it contributes to historical info. I guess we just can’t talk anymore.

The Bourbonnais rigs are over 20 years old of course they have maintenance issues…. they are fire apparatus not personal cars. Who cares what suspension is on it the department chose it so let them deal with it. Who cares what color it is the department chose it so let the department deal with it.
Some of you come on here and just talk crap about departments without any knowledge on what you’re talking about.

I would imagine that the rear steer can be locked out if desired and at the discretion of the HEO. I guess both types of suspension has it’s pros and cons but TAK4 has been a lemon since it came out. I get a kick out of that temporary wheel in the 3rd picture. can tell that’s going to be an attractive apparatus being black like that.

Thanks for the info Mike C I know all three Pierce trucks from Bourbonnais have had a number of quality and mechanical issues over the years back to Appleton and area service centers……..

I don’t think Bourbonnais is necessarily happy with their rear steer Pierce. Super high maintenance. I don’t think the Bourbonnais truck has the independent rear suspension. This rear suspension setup is not only an extremely expensive option but extremely expensive to maintain. I’m sure a salesman pushed this on McCook because anyone that knows about this suspension would steer away from it. No pun intended.

I wonder if it will have gold leaf lettering and gold striping?

And so does O’Hare airport for sqd 7 if they still have it

That rear independent / rear steer is brutal! High maintenance!

Just looked it up. It’s a Tak4 independent rear suspension with T3 rear steering. Quite a setup. I don’t think I’d care to work on it.

Looks like all wheel steer?
