From Danny Nelms:
Engine 97’s new rig appears to be the first to arrive in the city. Interesting addition of a door for outside access to the cabinet inside the rear of the cab.

Engine 97s rig is really a one off it was part of an order of 3 97 was just the only one with a flat roof….. D-574, D-575 and D-576 were put in service in late April and early May 2001 at engines 117 116 and 93. in-between April and June of 2004 they were reassigned to 127(117) 81(116) AND 97 (93).
The noticeable differences would include unpainted roll up compartment doors, and the lack of a gold pinstripe between the black cab top and the red on the bottom. the next batch with painted roll up doors and flat roofs started to arrived in October of 2001 20 rigs in total all delivered by late January of 2002.

What was so one off on engine 97? I know the rear doors didn’t have roll up windows. But what else?

Like to see the betting pool on how long it takes that rig to get its first working fire.

Wasn’t the placard only for the trucks? I don’t think I have seen placards on any of the new engines or tower ladders.

This engine looks like it is replacing one of the 2001-2002 engines. How many more 2001-2002 engines are there? I know there are several 2003 and 2004 Crimsons that will most likely be on the list to be replaced next.

That’s a nice new engine! Do you have any idea where the other 8 engines will be assigned to along with the ladder trucks? I know for sure the tower ladder will be assigned to Tower 24. Have any of the other engines or ladder trucks been delivered yet?

Nice to see there’s no removable number placard, did that experiment fail?
