Take note of the raised roof above the driver/officer. These cab is very spacious and well setup!

Localguy, I was confusing my troublesome rigs, you are correct, 164 and 171 are Ferraras. Urbana has made improvements in their fleet with each new rig in the last 20 years. And the “Urbana red” is a very sharp color.

Lots to like here. The low hose beds and working off the back step out of the engineers way is cool.. Love the Hi-Vis scene lighting and the Mars 888 light. Keeping the traditional color and not jumping on the black and red band wagon is also cool. looks like a no non-sense rig that will get the job done for years.

They’re not even red. Burgundy or Maroon is more like it.

Perhaps it’s just me but I like that color. A nice darker red.

I’m a big fan of the lighting setup on these. I’ve seen videos of the old 254 responding with the Rotabeams at the 45 degree angle on the bumper, and it seemed to be extremely effective. It’s also hard to go wrong with a Mars light! Nice rigs overall.

Also notice in the top side by side pic the Q was moved so the bells could be added. A retired fireman donated these back to the Dept. Both bells are off rigs from the 60s.

Correct, Champaign has Rosenbauers. The new 171 and 164 are Ferrara’s. From what I’ve heard the squad has been good. The ladder has had a few issues. But all has been fixed. These two new engines will be UFDs first to have all the preconnects coming out of the hosebed. They are pretty much no BS. Severe duty interior, all air ride. Darly PSM pumps. Another first at Urbana.

love the rig itself not a fan of the color

Champaign has the Rosenbauers, and they are pretty much all junk. They are in the midst of an early replacement on the engines. Haven’t heard anything about whether Squad 171 or Ladder 164 are lemons like the engines.

I believe I made a mistake about Urbana having Rosenbauers……

Nice to see tradition is alive and well in urbana! What happened to Rosenbauer?

Nice to see the low hosebeds. The Urbana red is pretty awesome as well. Very unique dark red.
