Rob – I can’t speak for Pierce but if I had to guess they have the mentality of minimize cost, maximize profit. I believe Pierce is about dominating the market rather than focusing on what they do well. It’s like going to Portillo’s getting an Italian beef that is absolutely delicious or going to a buffet where they serve large portions of everything but they offer nothing to rant and rave about. Pierce is like the buffet that offers nothing to rant and rave about (although some people do rant and rave about some Pierce products).

Mike C,
My question is since Pierce knows of the corrosion issues why don’t they purchase better products so this does not continue to happen? I know Skokie since they purchased there first 3 1988 pierce engines and truck and there after continue to buy Pierce and refurbing the body due to all of the corrosion.

Bill – I disagree with you. Pierce hasn’t made great apparatus in years!
They have horrible corrosion issues. Torque boxes, frame rails, and aerials. Carpentersville, and Lockport both retired their rear mount towers due to catastrophic failure to name a couple.
The TAK-4 has had numerous recalls.
The Ascendant ladder has also had a very major recall due to structural issues. Rockford even got rid of one of their Ascendants and went with the “heavy duty” ladder due to the Ascendant problems.
The Dash CF had a major design issue which is why this chassis was discontinued.
These are all issues within a very short time of each other. We all know each apparatus builder has it’s share of issues. Pierce’s issues effect the safety of the citizens and the crew operating the rigs.

All apparatus save lives. All things being equal, you may as well get one that in the best judgement has the best quality for the money and perhaps spend more and forget the blind loyalty. Not saying PIERCE is bad or great. They had some bad rust issues that PO’d many long time PIERCE loyalists. Not just the rust itself but how they handled it and treated the departments involved. Once you get jerked around and disappointed with something, it’s human nature not to think too highly of it and it may take a long time to come around again.

Pierce makes a great quality product and their vehicles are sharp looking. I dont know why people hate on a vehicle that saves lives.

Because neither you or me publishes this site. He can put whatever he wants on it. Ok so it doesn’t pertain to the Chicago area you can skip over it if it upsets you that much.

Now that’s something you don’t see that often. With the exception of the front bumper, 100% red even the ladder. Nice.
