The specs posted on the city’s website called for stainless bodies for the ladders. It looks like a stainless body in the photos. I assume the Hamburg stainless bodies are heavier than E-One’s Ocala aluminum bodies, which is the likely reason (along with higher equipment capacity) for three axles on the chassis rather than two.

Maybe it changed. I got that info right after they started buying Eone again. Could have just been talks. But, time will tell. If some single axle trucks show up we will know.

The spec on the contract agreement was for tandem only. They may have changed that up if they’re getting single axle

They are getting a handful of single axle ladders. Cfd ordered a mix of tandom and single axle ladders. Got my info from a buddy that works for Eone.

The 2000 e-one trucks held up great! T 30, 49 still have them front line. As far as the tandem axle that’s a fleet decision. It’s all about braking for them less brake jobs than single axle, the weights not been an issue with the rigs we have 20 years I’ve not ever seen or heard of a broken axle due to weight. The last I heard of that issue in Chicago was with the Ward/ Grove rigs in the 70’s. If there’s no sign boards on them from the factory they probably won’t get any.

Nice looking trucks! I guess the first trucks to be replaced will be the 00 Pierces unless there are any Seagraves still in service somewhere in the city.

Did the tip load change? Are they now heavy duty v/s medium duty? Good question!

Maybe a heavy duty frame? I know Milwaukee had problems with the old duplex LTI single axle ladders of the 1980’s. They were breaking axles and I believe cracking the frames. How well did the 2000 e ones hold up? There are a few left but as spare.

Probably because a single axle can’t handle the much weight without sacrificing long term durability.
