More Cicero Fire Department history from the files of Joseph Salerno:
Here are a few more. We grew up in the houses. Picture is of me at 6 months (1970) on the hook and ladder. Good memories ! The newspaper clipping of the smashed truck was the truck that my grandfather got thrown off of after getting hit on the way to a call- I think it was a Seagrave.

I see it now. All that stuff in front of the ALF makes it look like a pump.

In response to your 2 questions No the chief is not wearing a Commissioner Quinn helmet, he was wearing a white Fedora hat, He always wore a white fedora. Secondly the engine that got hit was by a 1940’s American LaFrance open cab tractor drawn ladder truck. Both of those vehicles where stationed at the 25th St Headquarters. And that engine was considered the 5th engine Co, and they called it the target hazard engine. The hook and ladder at that time was assigned 11-13 men, and when the target engine was called out, 4-5 men from truck jumped onto the engine. It main response was for school alarms, factory or warehouse fires, Auto response to the Western Electric complex and special duties or calls.
