Plainfield has purchased multiple similar looking units over the past few years with a few minor tweaks to each. Many municipally owned ambulances, regardless of the chassis brand/type, often fulfill a new role (both inside and outside of the Fire/EMS industry) after their initial role as a primary EMS vehicle. As they say, “there is an ass for every seat”

There’s a lot of examples of E series Box ambulances and van ambulances being used as other things as well. Orland has an investigator vehicle and a facilities maintenance vehicle that are both ex ambulances and Palos Heights has/did have a dive vehicle of the same.
There’s also plenty of such ambulances that get sold and donated and have second lives as ambulances elsewhere. Blue Island had an ex Orland rig, Robbins and Dolton both do as well.

very nice plainfield glad to see u are buying f 550 vs the ihc and bonus later it could serve a second life
Algonquin as of a few years ago had an ex ford e series ambo as a street dept vehicle
franklin park ex 1995 ihc is still with the street dept as sign truck been there almost 9 years
city of boston has an ex ambo as a plow truck all they did was add a plow
river forest has a 1998 e series ex ambo now it serves public works and police
and last that comes to mind is Elmwood pk has a 1990 e series was ex ambo then tech. rescue now it is painted black and is for police now
these are good examples of using an ex ambo in a second life
