  Thanks Jeri Caroline. So depending on how long training the 3 platoons takes the new truck will probably go in service sometime in February or at least by March would be a good guess.

  Bill, Your numbers are correct I was typing off top of my head. Mike Truck 81 is a pretend company and the tv show bought that rig from whoever. As far as I have heard the 93′ Seagrave’s motor blew up and the elected to junk it. That was their rig as they bought it at auction I believe. They don’t use city spares for regular filming as we are using all of them each day.

  Rich I have Truck 8 as the 57th busiest truck in Chicago with 940 runs for 2018. They were one of five trucks that did less than 1,000 runs. According to the numbers I have the only slower trucks were Trucks 62, 45, Tower Ladder 63, and Truck 61.
  I don’t know how accurate that information is but that is what I have.

  Sorry just to clarify AT8 will have there own still response area same as is now as well. And this rig meets the maximum height requirement by CFD of 11’9″ same as all the other trucks and towers and is no longer the the same either. these guys will be just fine with the rig. This is a welcome and needed addition to the fleet as rigs need to be replaced.

  For all you CFD operational experts out there…. Truck 8 is 56 out of 60 trucks as far as run numbers go. In other words they are slow. Truck 3 will never be an Aerial tower again and neither will Truck 1, we don’t use aerial ladders down town on high rise buildings. This rig will be used as a MABAS TRT special call rig and a CFD extra alarm requested by the IC rig. Believe it or not we do have some members who actually can drive a Truck through the streets of the city no matter the narrowness or height of the viaducs in their still. As far as truck 22 they are not going to be getting a new rig in the first batch. The first batch will go to other rigs which I don’t want to number yet because I’ll start a whole they’re not getting a new rig discussion again. I’ll just say 1 is going north and 2 are going south and 1 of these are being re assigned to another company. 🙂

  This rig is about 3″ taller and 2′ longer than the 100′ ladder truck. Not insignificant especially on the length.

  As for the 144′ Mack Magirus, that rig had a significantly smaller that this rig, so not really sure that the fact that they had this decades ago has any bearing on the current 137′ rig.

  BTW, nice new verb – when you Tower 34 something.

  For those of you who are making a big deal about Truck 8 getting the new 137-foot aerial, I have news for you. This isn’t the first time they ran with an extra tall aerial ladder. Truck 8 ran with one of Chicago’s 144-foot Mack/Magirus aerial ladders from September 1969 till June 1976. It was a hand-me-down rig originally assigned to Truck 3 from early 1960 til mid 1969.

  Chuck you could be right that if they get into some accidents or have trouble maneuvering through narrow streets in their district, it is possible that it be reassigned to Truck 3. I wouldn’t jump to conclusions too fast as their previous 144 footer lasted with for over 6 and a half years.

  First time they Truck 34 this thing off a low bridge or tear up a few cars on a narrow Bridgeport side street this thing will be pulled and it’ll be turned into Truck 3. Bet money on it.

  WHEW CFD wet dream!! Truck 8 is getting the 137 footer. Most suburbanites (I mean suburban firemen) don’t care.

  Sorry for the non political correctness …….what do you do for a living? I’m a fireman…..not firefighter, not my rank even though I’m not ranked as a fireman. If the conversation at the bar gets deeper….I’m a paramedic too.

  mike because no matter what town or city I have gone to trucks cars boats firetrucks are always hers but she looks great love the fact that the city is buying eones again will have to go see this one when it is in service as well as the old truck 8
