Mike C what are some reasons for an exploding fire pump?

Mike you are pretty much on target with your latest post about PIERCE. The rust issue and the TAK crap didn’t help them but let’s hope that those issues have been resolved.
What is the overall impression of the PUC concept?
Does PIERCE still offer the FORD 6.7L POWERSTROKE on the SABER? I see it has disappeared on the option list leaving the CUMMINS L9 as the sole engine.
I respectfully disagree with Anthony in his “they just don’t build things like they used to” stance.
I just turned 55 and I have heard that all of my life. So at what point did this happen? I would imagine that some people were mad when FORD stopped building the MODEL T.
You get what you pay for and that’s why a suburban Milwaukee County department switched to SEAGRAVE after being a PIERCE customer forever and they love them and no rust issues that put them off to PIERCE perhaps for good.
Yes some thing are crap nowadays. You can but some cheap plastic vacuum cleaner that will last less than 10 years or you can buy a KIRBY that will last for many decades even though they cost up to or more than 1k.

A pump could explode from a multitude of different reasons. I’d say a good chance that it’s not a Pierce problem. Pierce definitely make a nice looking rig.
Some of the things I like about Pierce:
Creativity – Always thinking of new ideas and concepts such as the PUC which many manufactures have replicated.
The one piece windshield is amazing! I think Rosenbauer is the only manufacturer besides Pierce to offer a one piece windshield. Drove a Pierce a few months ago and it was quite surprising what a difference it makes.
Fit & finish is amazing! When that rig leaves the assembly line, it’s trimmed out well and quality control is strict.
Things I hate about Pierce:
TAK4 suspension is total garbage. Drove a Pierce with the TAK 4 and the body roll was awful! Felt like the rig was going to roll on a turn. The TAK4 is advertised as the same suspension on Oshkosh military vehicles. Unfortunately, this isn’t the case.
The vehicles don’t seem to have longterm integrity. Corrosion within a short time of the vehicle life seems to be a common issue. I’m not entirely sold on the Command Zone multiplex system. In fact, I hate multiplexing. Torque boxes are rusted out within 5 years.
Many of their parts are proprietary driving up vehicle repairs.
The Ascendant aerial line has many restrictions. It’s sold as a gem but in reality it’s pretty limited to what it actually can do.
You pay for the name. Pierce is high price when in reality, you can usually find a higher end product for less. In many circumstances, quality doesn’t mean everything when you have the best but can’t get it serviced. I’m not impressed with the customer service the Pierce dealer network provides.

I’ve made my opinion clear on Pierce in the past but looks like a nicely setup rig. I always liked the front suction coming straight out the front. Eliminates a couple elbows. I wonder where the LDH is stored for the front suction. I think I would’ve opted for the Hi Viz LED scene lighting over the FRC accompanied by the Hi Viz headlights. All in all, it’s a nice engine. Short wheelbase too!
