We (Prospect Heights FPD) are meeting with Alexis tomorrow, Sept. 3 to finalize our order of a pumper with rescue body. It will be our fifth Alexis. Besides the quality, it’s the customer service that we value most. Any issue we’ve had post-delivery, and even years later, has been swiftly handled without any grief or delay. As with some other builders such as Pierce and Marion, Alexis’ factory is a short drive away so we can make any necessary trips without the additional cost of airfare or hotel rooms. Alexis is happy to perform the custom work we need and we truly value that as well. After being an Alexis customer for the past 18 years we enjoy the excellent relations and quality craftsmanship they deliver.

Pierce used to build on Spartans all the time especially in the 1980’s. I’m not sure about now. But they’ll build on any commercial chassis you want.

Perhaps they just prefer the SPARTAN chassis regardless of the rest of the body and pump.
I wonder if you can get a PIERCE built on a SPARTAN chassis/cab?
PIERCE would rather not if possible but I have wondered if that can be done.

Fox lake has bought from Alexis for decades. They are happy with the bodybuilder.

Ok, so this is a question I have always had. What is the advantage from buying through a smaller manufacture like Alexis, instead of buying one made by Spartan? Isn’t the chassis one of the most important parts of an apparatus? So if it is built on a Spartan chassis, why not just get one from them? Obviously there has to be some advantages of doing it this way since so many departments buy from companies who do not make chassis. I’m guessing cost is one reason. This is probably a very stupid question, but I have always wondered why. Also I have nothing against companies who buy chassis, then do a custom job on them. Alexis has been around for something like 70 years, so obviously they are pretty good. Plus the ones I have seen in person look to have pretty good craftsmanship.

Which one will this replace?

This is an interesting apparatus for them. Side mount pump instead of enclosed cab. It looks very nice although the hose bed looks like an after thought.
