Excerpts from the NWherald.com:
The Harvard Firefighters’ Association is organizing a poker run and golf outing Sept. 29 to benefit Phil Jacobs, a 30-year veteran of the Harvard Fire Protection District who recently was diagnosed with cancer.
Jacobs was diagnosed with Ewing’s sarcoma and is undergoing chemotherapy, radiation treatment, and stem cell transplants. Proceeds from the fundraiser, Fight for Phil, will go toward Jacobs and his family.
Registration for the bike ride will be between 9 and 11 a.m. at the Harvard Fire Protection District, 502 S. Eastman St. Bikes will leave the station at 11 a.m. The event will cost $20 a bike, plus $10 for an additional rider.
Tee-off for the golf outing will begin at 11 a.m. at Beaver Creek Golf Course, 19619 Le Roy Center Road, Capron. The price will be $50 a person, which will allow participants to shoot nine holes with a golf cart and be treated to a meal between noon and 3 p.m. Those only playing golf will pay $30, and those only eating will pay $20.
It will be a family-friendly event, and the firefighters’ association is trying to acquire some bounce houses for children in attendance.
A 50/50 raffle and silent auction also will be held to raise money. The raffle drawing will take place at 4 p.m. Ticket holders do not have to attend the event to win. For 50/50 tickets, contact the district at 815-943-6927.
