Excerpts from nbcchicago.com:
A Chicago fire engine was on the top floor of a parking garage at a city health facility Tuesday morning when the garage partially collapsed underneath it.
Engine 126 was responding to a medical run at the Symphony of South Shore and the vehicle was left parked on the top floor of a two-story parking garage as firefighters went inside the building. While they were inside, the deck failed and collapsed. The engine went into a hole but the front bumper kept it from falling to the ground level.
thanks Rob

Any idea if the E-ones that were being built for the city earlier this year have been delivered yet?

What happened with Engine 125? I saw the pictures. Were they struck by another vehicle or did they run into the light pole?

Water is about 8.3 pounds per gallon so figure 4150lbs of water.
#11 by sebastian on August 7, 2019 - 5:41 PM
so does that mean 125 will be in a permanent spare? or will they order another e-one for it?

Harry they carry 500 gallons. Water weight 9.6 pounds per gallon so it’s about 4800 pounds. The engine was rescued and then taken to fleet to be inspected. The water in the tank probably helped distribute the weight to the rear more. It should be back in service soon. It looks like there isn’t any damage as of now. As for parking I guess they normally park there on runs to this address. 125 on the other hand is probably totaled. The pump house and rear body took a lot of damage.

abc7 said they had to empty the water tank which was 38000 pounds of water while I doubt the water weights that much I would say 7 pounds at most it should be about 7000 pounds of water I bet there will be a lawsuit for this

Sebastian I heard from bill friedrich ritired from downers grove fd that 125 may be totaled

Does anyone know what the status of engine 125 is after they had their wreck in their new engine?
#16 by Paul on August 7, 2019 - 12:49 PM
Looks like that was one of the newer engines, is that right? If so it didn’t take long to get its first character mark!

Parking decks are designed for vehicles that do not exceed a gross vehicle weight rating of 10,000 pounds (per IBC Section 1607). Loaded fire engines can approach a weight of 40,000 pounds. This vehicle was simply too heavy and should not have driver on top of the deck.

Was it drivable once they got it out or did they have to tow it?

Glad nobody was hurt. I have a few of the Chicago TV station apps on my phone and when the headline said parking garage collapse, I thought the worst and then I pulled up the pictures and while it was bad, it was a relief too.
But still how bad of condition is this structure for this to happen?
