Excerpts from the NWherald.com:
Huntley Fire Protection District officials are hoping for a mid-June groundbreaking on the construction of a new fire station and an addition to and site renovation of the district’s administrative and maintenance facility.
A 10,000-square-foot fire station will be built adjacent to Sun City, and a roughly 12,000-square-foot addition and site renovation will be made to an existing facility at 11118 Main St. Last week, the Huntley Village Board approved a site plan review for the expansion and renovation of the Main Street building, which would serve as the fire district’s new headquarters once completed. The district’s current headquarters and Station 1 at 11808 Coral St. would be sold once the renovations are finished.
Construction for a proposed Station 5, which would be located at the southeast corner of Jim Dhamer Drive and Hennig Road and staffed by three firefighters 24 hours a day, already has received the necessary village board approval to proceed. This new station’s construction should finish in eight to
10 months, depending on the weather.Neither project required a referendum to move forward. Huntley Fire Chief Scott Ravagnie said about $14 million has been saved in the past eight years for various expansion projects to compensate for projected growth.
