My question about PIERCE is TAK4 the only suspension you can get on certain models or can you get conventional air suspension?

I actually don’t think they’ll have issues with the rear axle in terms of weight. If anything the Tak 4 will fail before the rear axle. I do wonder the longevity of the Ascendent line of aerials. In order for Pierce to meet weight restrictions on the rear axle all components of the Ascendent are made with light weight material. Pierce definitely knows how to develop and market their products. They have definitely raised the bar for its competition but I after 16 years as an EVT, I don’t think the Pierce quality is anything to rant and rave about. The fit & finish is bar none but I have seen so many electrical problems with the Command Zone it’s unreal. I hate the body roll produced from the Tak 4. Pierce has a great name which is why their price is almost always the highest bid but I would never buy one. I still think Sutphen, and Seagrave are the two leaders when it comes to overall quality. Most importantly, are you receiving good service after the sale? Not just with Pierce but with other builders, I’ve seen the end user completely forgotten. Is the builder going to support you or not? Why do I promote E-One in the Chicagoland area? Because Fire Service Inc. easily has the best customer service out of any dealer in Northern Illinois!

Aerials with single rear axles were pretty common until the 1990’s, when tandem axles became the norm. The Ascendant is somewhat lighter than the standard Pierce aerial, and though it may not be the right choice for every department, I doubt that Pierce would put their reputation on the line by building something that was unsound.

Exactly Austin.
I never even thought about the builder when I made that comment. I’m not a PIERCE blaster nor am I a defender. they have an impressive history and product lineup as does E-ONE and SEAGRAVE.
If any builder does something great, I’ll praise them. If they do something stupid or just plain jerk customers around, I’ll blast them.

Um no one was talking about Pierce being of inferior quality in this post thefiremang. Crabby is just making an observation about single axle ladders, not Pierce. People have wondered this out loud from every manufacture, not just Pierce. Sure Pierce gets a bad rep in here, but not in this post.

It will do just fine on a single rear axle. No one says a word about the E-One Metro 100 on a single axle, Seargrave and E-one have been making single rear axles for years. They work. Nothing new, Pierce did an outstanding job on their 107 Ascendant and its selling out the door, just like the PUC concept, people were bashing them left and right and its the most popular pump out there in my opinion, even E-One had to copy Pierce and come out with the E-Max to try to compete with the most superior fire apparatus company PIERCE. Pierce has taken over the apparatus industry of aerial ladders and pumpers. Visit their web page and look how many rigs they pump out compared to all the other fire apparatus manufacturers. They must be doing something right. Depts huge and small are buying Pierce, so they are definitely not afraid of buying Pierce. so don’t say Pierce is putting out quantity over quality because that’s not true, or else cities, towns and villages wouldn’t be buying them. And no, I am not a salesman nor a spokesman for Pierce, but a very satisfied customer of their apparatus and believe me in my career I worked on many different fire apparatus and Pierce hands down is the better of them all. Seagrave is the second best

Looks sharp.
I still wonder how these new single axle rigs can handle the weight.

Engine 711 will more than likely be the primary reserve at 1

Harry, they still have the Snorkel. They’re getting rid of Engine 704. Unless their gameplan has changed, Tower 709 is staying at 3, Engine 710 at 2 and the Quint will run out of 1.

so did they get rid of the snorkel
