This from Wayne Stuart for #TBT:
The Gary Fire Department operated two of these 1970 American LaFrance 900 series ladders. They had 100′ ladders and 200 gallon booster tanks. This one carried ALF serial # 2-1-2323 and was assigned to Truck Co. 2. These photos are pre and post rehab in 1982. It was rather unique because the cab roof was cut out to lower the overall height of the rig to accommodate the low door height of the apparatus bay. It was one of the few Gary apparatus that remained in it’s original assignment for the majority of its career.

John: Didn’t lose any headroom. It was just the rear of the canopy cab notched out so it would sit a bit lower in the cradle. Besides it was over the engine cowling anyway. It was just a smaller shelf to put stuff on.

Did it leak? How much head room did they lose? Looks cool, does anyone have a picture of it by its firehouse? John

It ran as Truck 8 for a while in the early 90’s. The cut roof let it get into the arched door at sta 8.

It’s always nice to see an old ALF on “Throwback Thursday”.
