Wilmington Fire Department history

This from Mike Summa for #TBT:

For TBT- This is the Wilmington Fire Dept.’s E2611, a Hendrikson/Pirsch from the 1980’s. I am sorry I have no specs on this engine.  If anyone knows more about this, please feel free to share.

Vintage Chicago Fire Department 2-11 Alarm audio recording

This from Steve Redick:

Some more classic CFD radio. Warren Jonas was the call taker and yours truly gave out the still on the amplifier. Joe Pavlik was on the radio in the office. I think the 7th battalion was Mike Hughes  2-11 3607 Fullerton. Nothing unusual about this but just a good old typical extra alarm.

Harvard Fire Protection District news

Excepts from the nwherald.com:

With one engine not operational and one that recently sustained damage during a house fire, the Harvard Fire Protection District’s board decided Tuesday to secure a bank loan to fund a new pumper. Two bids were opened during a special meeting earlier in the day, but only one met specific requirements that the district is looking for.

At this point in the fiscal year, the district has spent in excess of its projected income by $35,000 and an additional $132,000 needs to be paid in payroll expenses before property tax dollars come in June, which quickly will exhaust reserve funding if this trend continues.

Of $37,654 in damage Engine 747 sustained after responding to a fire on Altenburg Road in November,  insurance will cover all but a $1,000 deductible. The engine should be fully operational within the next two weeks.

While the engine has been under repair, Harvard has used engines from the Marengo Fire Protection District and the Lincolnwood Fire Department. As a form of repayment, staff are exploring the possibility of using the windshield from the decommissioned Engine 747 to replace a cracked windshield on Marengo’s engine.

Chicago Fire Department history – 1964

This from Steve Redick:

February 23, 1964. A great article with some very famous names. It may be hard to read but if you enlarge each page you should be able to read all of it. Classic Chicago Fire Department …
Louis Galante and my dad were very close in those years. They taught classes together and many a time I would come home from school and they would be “pulling ceiling” in our bar downstairs. That was a great time to be in and around the CFD. This was too good not to share
