From Wayne Stuart for #tbt
The Gary Fire Department operated this 1970 American LaFrance 900 Series pumper Serial #2-1-2321. It was originally assigned to Engine Co. 4. It was rehabbed in 1982 and a 1000 Series cab was installed. The roof was also painted Navy blue. It was then assigned to Engine Co.1 for the rest of it’s career.

Thank you for posting this picture!! This was my first assigned company on the Gary F.D. back in 1985 when you could stand up in the pocket or ride the tailboard to a fire. This rig had power steering and a manual transmission and was one of the first companies the city to start using 5″ large diameter hose back in the day.

Thanks Wayne. I always enjoy your contributions to the site. Since Cal City is getting two new engines, do you have any historical images from them to celebrate?

A classic in every sense of the word.
Just about perfectly posed for the picture.
