Chuck I agree with you about having an ambulance in service at Engine 125 and moving the 8th Battalion to Engine 68. Between having an ambulance at Engine 55 or at Engine 4 it makes more sense to me to have a new ambulance go in service at Engine 55 and skip Engine 4 as Engines 22, 14, and 98 all have ambulances and all are a mile and a half or less from Engine 4’s house. It also seems to make sense to move Ambulance 29 from Truck 24 to Engine 121 and Truck 40’s house and why not just move Ambulance 75 from Engine 101 to Engine 88?

Can’t see new ambulances at both E-4 AND E-55. Not with the need on the West Side. Maybe one to E-125 and move the buggy to E-68.

Most of the city’s ambos are on their second set of throwaway e450’s. The first batch are spares and junk. Some of the slower rigs still have the 2014 but most are 2016-17 rigs

Mike the reason that you haven’t seen any 70 series ambulances on the Chicagoareafire website is that they were not updated.
During September of 2014 the 15 BLS ambulances were renumbered from 80 and 90 series to 60 and 70 series. So what were ambulances 80 to 94 are numbers 61 to 75. When that renumbering took place Ambulance 93 was converted into ALS Ambulance 74 and was relocated from Engine 42 to Engine 13’s house. Ambulance 94 was made into ALS Ambulance 75 however as of now they are still at Engine 101’s station along with ALS Ambulance 58.
The ambulances numbered 76 to 80 are new companies that are about to be put in service and the others will be replacements for ambulances already in service.

Didn’t the city get a few new Ambulances last year as well? I know the majority of the ambulances were replaced in 2014. Isn’t it going to be time to replace the 2014 Ambulances soon? They had the 2007 Ambulances in service for way too long!
Glad that the city is going to try to improve EMS response times.

These are new rigs that would be added to the CFD and wouldn’t replace old models to improve time of medical calls

I know they only make the cutaway version of the E-series now, but looks like Ford’s not really keen on the design of these rigs any more, to say the least.

Rumor is that the next batch will be built on dodge ram chassis

Looks like they may be the additional ambulances the Mayor promised would be added based on a plan coming from the CFD by March, 2018…..

I noticed that the new ambs numbers are in the 70’s series, not seeing any 70 series on Chicago Area Fire website, are these new additional amb being placed in service or replacing older models already running>?? Anyone know how many there are? Mike
