I think he meant that the Old Engine 3 will go into reserve when the new Ferrara engine arrives next year.

Wait.. why will a brand new engine go into reserve immedietly???
#4 by FFPM571 on December 19, 2017 - 10:58 PM
Old Engine 3 has over 120K miles on it. When the new Ferrara comes it will be a reserve along with the 2007 Impel. DG has had 2 Reserve engines for years.

So is the new engine replacing engine 103, or is it immediately going into reserve?
#6 by FFPM571 on December 19, 2017 - 7:13 PM
The new Downers Ferrara is replacing the 2000 Pierce Saber that was Engine 5 for many years. It has been in Reserve for the last 3 but runs a lot as Engine 2 (102) Engine 3( 103) the 2005 Enforcer was put into reserve when the new Squad 101 was put in service the Engine 1 2007 Impel was moved to station 3 because of the lower mileage. When the big rains a few months ago the Impel had a little U boat incident where the Motor Hydrolocked and is currently looking at $40K worth of repairs to the motor and Electrical system. The 2005 Enforcer is running front line til then back at its original station til the repairs are made. Once the Ferrara is in service it will go to Station 3

Brian Tinley only uses one of the towers, the other is a spare
#8 by Brian on December 19, 2017 - 3:04 PM
Interesting that Tinley is replacing just one of the two towers

I think its going to Engine 103. I know the one they’re using is a 2008, and 105 is fairly new, though I have heard that they have a problem with the cab space in the back, but I don’t think they would replace it just because of that and if they did, it would go down to station 3, so there’s no point.

FFFPM571, which Downers engine is this replacing?
#11 by Daniel Hynd on December 19, 2017 - 10:22 AM
Matt, I read your question wrong. You are correct, the enforcer is not available as a platform, only as an aerial. My bad
#12 by Daniel Hynd on December 19, 2017 - 10:17 AM
The Enforcer is offered on the 105′ Heavy Duty Aerial and the Ascendant Aerials.
Also, the Detroit DD13 is considered a big block engine.

The ENFORCER offers the DETROIT engine as an option.
Is that one considered big block?

I’m not sure you can order the Enforcer as an aerial platform — I think only the Ascendant or maybe as a 75′ quint. Also, Tinley’s straight stick is a Velocity so commonality with the previous aerial purchase.

In regards to the two different chassis that Tinley Park purchased… Pierce doesn’t offer a big block in the Enforcer as they do in the Velocity. While the Enforcer and Velocity don’t look the same they are also two very different chassis at very different prices. You may ask why not go with the Impel chassis to match the appearance of the Velocity. The Impel is also a more expensive chassis than the Enforcer.

Interesting question about Tinley Park, my guess is they are replacing the E-One tower ladder. Not sure why they decided to go with two different chassis.

I didn’t know Downers was getting a new engine. It’s going to be assigned to Engine 103 I assume? I have also noticed 103 has been using the reserve recently, anyone know if the Impel is down temporarily or if its permanently OOS?
