Your right Bill my mistake I forgot about 50 getting that 2002 Spartan/Luverne.

How many of those engines are they making and where will they be assigned to?

According to the latest information that I have the 1995 Spartan Luverne Engine that had been reassigned to Engine 50 after being originally assigned to Engine 89 was replaced by a newer hand me down Engine sometime in 2015 and Engine 50 had been reassigned a 2002 Spartan Luverne Engine which was originally assigned to Engine 82 until 2010. For a few years Engine 82’s former rig was assigned to the spare pool until finally replacing the 1995 Spartan at Engine 50.
It is ironic that when the 1995 Spartan was reassigned to Engine 50 it was actually replacing a rig that was about 3 years newer which was one of the short wheel base 1998 HME/Luvernes. That illustrates how unpopular the short wheel base HME Luvernes are. I guess that since the 1995 Spartan had been assigned to one of the slowest companies in the city they were able to reassign it to Engine 50 for a few years.

To Bill Post’s response about the HME/Luvernes. Engine 50’s 1995 Spartan/Luverne is the oldest front line rig followed by the 1997 HME/Luverne’s assigned to Engine 28,80,94 & 104.

Probably to show proficiency on the same exact equipment as they use since there are differences from batch to batch

Thanks that’s good for Chicago. It sounds like they are done with Spartan/Crimson. What’s up with the Squads. John

Thanks for the information CFD 130. Coincidentally I just saw Engine 102’s new hand me down less then an hour ago from a bus that I was on. I wonder why the CFD is using only 2009 rigs for proficiency testing? I would figure that they would be using the rig at the Academy for that kind of thing. I guess that maybe they are using the 2009 models because they aren’t too old yet?.

Engine 102 which had a short wheelbase HME/Luverne until an accident last year received engine 73’s rig. Engine 125’s old rig was put in the spare pool and recently was used for engine 122. Engine 122’s 2009 Spartan/Crimson rig is being used for engineer proficiency testing with other 2009 Spartan/Crimson engines-5-14-32-69-119.

This is good news as it means that Chicago is getting a 4th new E/One engine. That doesn’t include Engines 9 and 10 at O’Hare.
As of now the oldest engines that are in front line service are the 1997 long wheelbase HME/Luvernes at Engine 94, 28, 104, and 80 unless any of them have recently been assigned a hand me down rig such as Engine 73 or Engine 125’s old rigs that were replaced last fall by the new E-Ones.
