DaveyB, the only time I saw the 50’s Chevy Engine was when it was parked inside their old Station#2, a shed/garage located inside their trailer court. This was in the late 70’s or early 80’s. I do remember seeing an old rescue panel truck parked behind their main firehouse, but I couldn’t tell you the make or year. I do believe the step van replaced it. If you want to see most of Dixmoor’s old rigs go to “DGFD@Smugmug.com”. Bill Freidrich has some excellent photos. Unfortuately, the old Chevy’s are not among them.

LT501, can you refresh my memory? Was the 50’s Chevy the panel truck? I remember it as 222 and a Chevy pumper as 221, but I don’t recall the ages. And the pump on the panel truck worked into the mid-80’s.

This rig had a “sister”. Dixmoor purchased a pumper with an identical IHC cab at the same time. It ran as Engine 2423. I believe they were the last of the “all white” fleet…which had included two Alfco’s, one Hendrickson, one ’50’s Chevy, and one Step Van Rescue. I believe both the Hendrickson and the IHC engines were later repainted “black over red”. Don’t know what happened to.the above squad.
