Cs Wouldn’t they want to still keep the mini pumper at O”Hare field for auto fires in the multilevel park garage?

The mini pumper will go to midway as a spare for 637,the box will stay at ohare as a spare for the squad and 512

So, where are the old Squad 7 and 7A going to be housed? Will they stay on the O’Hare property?

MABAS 21 if you go back to the original delivery pictures there were 2 lids on each side, now there is only one on each side. It would appear that they removed the rearward compatments without doing anything to the sides of the box.

On a positive note, great pics Niko…thanks for sharing. Looking at the “snorkel” apparatus pics, what exactly was modified by the shops? Did they remove the L & R upper rear dunage compartments? The side upper panels still appear the same.

Mabas21 the rear coffin compartments on top of the A units were removed from both sides. There are pictures I’ve seen on Facebook that show it but you can only see from on top of the rig. With the rear coffin compartments in place the lower boom could only rotate in the full vertical position. This is now fixed.

Yes. I was just thinking about the in city CFD rigs. The black over red has always been the “Chicago” fire department way. Seems we are losing our history.

Unfortunately Bill, that is the case with many departments in the Chicagoland area. Tradition and unique identity are falling wayside because the bean counters are crying broke or the new, up and coming chief officers do not care about tradition or rather “brand” their department and apparatus with off the wall graphics or color schemes. Let’s be greatfull that at least the new engines, trucks and squads are still black over red.

My thoughts exactly. They just don’t seem right without the black top. Somehow, they found a way to incorporate a white stripe.
The rest of the rigs look good especially old no. 7 the big PIERCE.

Those new rigs look very stupid without the black top like they have been for centuries. What say you people?

The buggy? Agreed. The airport rigs never had black tops. The other squads all do have black tops.

Definitely agreed! It is Chicago FD’s distinctive tradition that so many departments across the country have replicated. If financial concerns are the real reason for not painting the roofs black on the new buggies, why don’t they find a vendor to apply a black colored vinyl wrap on the roof? Both the Roberts Park and North Palos FPD’s have done so ( with white and black respectfully) and they are holding up good still. Just an option.

It is my understanding the new buggies are leased and thus cannot be modified with black roofs.
