Images by Tim Olk from the scene of the EMS Plan II on the Kennedy Expressway today (2/15/15) in the express lanes near North Avenue. Reportedly there were close to 40 cars involved, 59 medical refusals, and 12 patients transported to area hospitals.
Excerpts from the Chicago Tribune:
Lake-effect snow that is expected to hang around Chicago until the middle of the afternoon is causing slippery conditions on some area roadways close to Lake Michigan, leading to multiple accidents like the one that fouled up traffic on the Kennedy Expressway Sunday morning and afternoon.
Police said the snow conditions were responsible for the chain-reaction crash as there are no shoulders on the express lanes. The expressway was reopened at about 11 a.m., police said.

I know that they do use CTA buses for warming and they requested one from the CTA for this incident but from what I recall, the CTA response time was going to be too long. I am not 100% sure on that but I think I remember communications along those lines. They did have a CTA warming bus at the Still and Box on Devon for the members to warm up and de-thaw. They even had “CFD Warming Bus” on the electronic sign at the front of the bus where the route info would usually be.

Perfect application for the Mass Casualty Bus. Doesn’t CFD have some arrangement with the CTA, too, for instances like this with warming buses?

Yes Fred, 8-8-12 was on the scene and transported many of the un-injured to 35th and Normal where the damaged cars were towed to. You can see it right in the middle of the second picture and on the other side of the wall.
