Its not Blue Island that is taking over its Kurtz Ambulance, saw the proposal going to combine MP and Garden Holmes into one.

My appologies to “The Dude”. Did not realize that taking over the MP fire station was part of the deal.
Blue Island will be spread awfully thin over a large geographic area. Do you think the automatic mutual response by Garden Homes continue?

Good for MP. They will finally have a very nice new truck to use in town and others. BI can only run their Tower out of town when they have 3 guys to take it. That would be pretty hard with them being so busy with EMS calls. Blue Island Nearly has enough guys to man their two stations. Minimum staffing for BI is 4 guys, 2 at Station 1 and 2 at Station 2. Blue Island Runs anywhere from 10-15 Calls a day, with minimum manning. I highly doubt BI would take over MP. And when you talk about them having a 15 passenger van, good for them. They can use it for whatever they need. It’s a MULTI PURPOSE UTILITY VEHICLE.

3 guys at station 1 and 2 guys at 2 station 2 . It’s bad , really bad , I hear there chief is going to start utilizing POCs and augmenting them whenever BI is tied up now . There very busy hats off to those guys for running such a busy department with what little they have

If you think about it, 7 out of the 9 MABAS22 deparments have truck companies .

Blue Island is going to sell their tower ladder and use the new MP truck. The money from the sale will go towards outfitting the MP firehouse for two part-time Blue Island guys. As for Garden Homes, they just have single family homes so no truck on their initial still alarm is probably not a big deal. Besides, Alsip is right down the street with a truck.

Well I tell you this, MPFD responds to Blue Island on all reports of fires. Also before the MPFD was formed in 1949 the village of MP contracted with Chicago for fire protection then contracted with Blue Island for fire protection so that could be a responsible rumor.

I think “The Dude” is spreading a wild rumor. Blue Island, as well as Alsip, do not have stations within a reasonable distance of Merrionette Park. At least a 2 1/2 mile run. Contracting out to Chicago would be the only possibility geographically and that hasn’t occurred since the CFD covered Lincolnwood in the 1980’s.
The truck also serves Garden Homes.

I’m sure Blue Island will like that truck after they take over running calls for Merrionette Park. I heard the mayor is going to give the truck to Blue Island as payment to contract them out and get rid of the POC’s on Merrionette Park.

This community definitely can use a new ladder as they have had two used trucks in the recent past. They have a number of apartment buildings, some large shopping and industrial buildings that they have to protect so it does make sense to have an aerial especially when the mutual aid ladders may not be available as the surrounding departments are small as well and staffing may not be available when they are already on an EMS call.

There will NOT be a tax increase. The truck is purchased with bonds that have been figured into the yearly budget until paid off. The voters just need to approve a purchase that large because MP is not home rule. It will be run as a truck, unless needed otherwise. The 12 passenger van is used as an auxiliary vehicle, mostly for manpower if needed. (Only need a regular license to drive it) Remember, MPFD is a non-manned paid on call department.

Is the Van there to bring extra members to the scene of the fire or is it merely a R and R (Rest and Rehabilitation) unit for members of the department or for fire victims at a working fire? I take that it goes to all structure fires or does it only go to working fires? Thanks

I work in MABAS Division 22 when they get toned out for an EMS run it usually chases the ambulance if they can’t get a full crew together for E2613 (hence there paid on call ) and it also is staffed by some sort of shift commander as well

I am just curious as to what is the purpose of the 15 passenger van?
#16 by Jim on October 28, 2014 - 10:12 PM
.4 square miles and they are seeking a tax increase to replace a truck when their neighbors all have trucks? I don’t mean to offend anyone but how does this make sense to the tax payers? Is this the best use of resources?

It’s not just a truck. It’s a truck, backup engine, and has enough space to hold all their rescue stuff….so they got allot. Their referendum was only for $850k. It’s nice to be a self sufficient dept. Especially when you have a million guys on the roster! Haha
#18 by Dennis on October 28, 2014 - 7:58 PM
Merrionette Park runs a regular engine and the current truck plus a BLS ambulance with a follow along 15 passenger van. This new truck will replace their current truck and based on past practice it’s primary function I assume will be as a truck.

Are they going to run this as a quint?
