6-5-10 is running out of Rescue 1, which is in the SW Cargo area, and is going to be the ARFF commander for the south airfield runways. 6-5-10 is using the best of the spare crash rigs which happens to be the old, 6-5-7…Rumor is 2 new crash rigs ordered, 8 wheel drive Strykers…..

I remeber when the barge exploded on the canal at Cicero ave, the city used 6-5-9 from E34’s house i believe.

You mean the photo of the crash truck with the POORLY Photoshopped number ISN’T the REAL 6-5-10? The City of Chicago pulling a FAST ONE for publicity purposes? Oh, the shame. Maybe they did that so detail guys will know which rig they have to get on when they get sent to O’Hare.

Tim I was wondering the same thing. Since the FAA requires that you have a dedicated spare for each type of unit on the field. So maybe they are going to use a spare engine for now or 6-5-10 is a ” paper company “. I’m not sure but I thought a new crash rig was slated for delivery soon.

And Dennis, quite a few years back, that 1974 Yankee Walters 6-5-10 was for sale at a salvage yard in West Terre Haute Ind. still had radios in it AND a full tank of water! Wish I had a place to put it, because it sure would have been neat to buy!

Actually Danny, 6-5-9 was kept at Eng 34’s house a few years back until it was placed back in service at O’Hare Rescue 4, with Battalion 6 a coupla years back. And most of the directories printed still list 6-5-9 as an airport spare at Eng 34…

This should cut back on Still & Box responses from the city on initial stand bys. Years ago the FAA told us there was more than enough equipment to handle landing aircraft incidents / standbys at O’Hare. Plan one’s would probably remain the same.

This is actually a REORGANZING of 6-5-10

Crash Truck 10 (6-5-10):
Organized: 7/25/1974 at Rescue 2(Built 1974) with a 1974 Yankee Walter
Relocated: 11/6/1980 moved to Rescue 1
Note: at some point it was moved to Meigs Field. There is a photo of 6-5-10 with a 1972 Oshkosh M-1000 Shop# G-303 at Meigs Field taken in the 1990’s.

Not sure when it was Disbanded.

ALS Eng 12 will be in service at Rescue 1, on or about Feb 16th……

Bill – Rescue 2 will have to be replaced as it is in the path of future runway 9C/27C, the new house will be near the the 32L/14R & 4L/22R intersection, that would be NE of its current location, that’s according to some ORD Modernization maps.

I would imagine the addition of another crash truck to the response group would mean an additional station coming on board correct?

I have a question. What are the current plans for the next new fire station at O:Hare and will it be a new fire/ rescue company station or a replacement station for one the is currently in service. There are different stories on what will happen but I wonder what the real (current) plans are and not just speculation.

As O’Hare is going through a major runway realignment there obviously have been and will be several fire station realignments as well.
