Thanks Justin. I get the impresssion that Gary is in such bad shape that no one wants to talk about it. I am assuming that they recall at least one off duty shift for a working fire. I am also assuming that they don’t ask for mutual aid unless there is a significant threat of communications to exposed structures. I would be curious to know if FFs stay at the airport no matter what or if they have to close the airport pending a call back.
Maybe someone will enlighten us.

Thanks for the photo and information. Am I correct in thinking that four engines and one truck is roughly a 2/3 cut over the last ten or fifteen years?
Do they recall the off duty shifts when they have a working fire?
What happens if they have an extra alarm fire? Where does the mutual aid come from?
Thanks in advance for any replies.

GFD has been running about 4 engines and 1 truck per shift. These new engines just arrived Wednesday, April 24th and hopefully they’ll be in service soon. 1 is lettered for Engine 8, 1 is lettered for Engine 5, and the last one im not sure of; Im assuming it will go to Engine 4.

Is Gary FD fire main channel still 154.190? How many co’s do they actually keep in-service per shift? I know they had a period of “brown-outs” or flat out closing of stations? THANKS!

Are these units in service yet? The mini squads are lettered 1 and 3.

Gary has a total of 4 Sutphen engines, 3 of which are brand new and the 4th is the former Glenwood, IL engine. They were supposed to place an order with HME for 2 quints to replace Truck Companies 4 & 13 but cancelled the order at the last minute. Also they run 2 mini squads now, 2 & 3, which handle extrications.

Ok that makes sense. I knew they didn’t have any before.

I’m not sure they will. I don’t think they still have painted the cab to the small replacement squad after the old Pierce/Ferrara rolled over and they’ve had it almost two years.

The Sutphen Facebook page goes on to say GFD has two Sutphen pumpers that are very similiar to each other.

I’d doubt if they have the money for that….very cash strapped dept. If I was them I wouldn’t waste my money repainting a truck. Just my 2 cents.

Hope they repaint it
