Made possible by generous donations to Carle Health Center for Philanthropy, 8249 has the room to carry vital equipment and up to two patients cared for by critically trained nurses, paramedics and an emergency medical technician who will staff the transport. A rollover crash on the Southwest Side involving four vehicles, including an ambulance and a semi-truck, left three people injured on Saturday just before 11:30 a.m. in the 6300 blocks of South Ashland Avenue in West Englewood.
According to police, a 54-year-old man was driving a semi-truck northbound along Ashland, when he allegedly crashed into the rear passenger side of an ambulance that was headed east along 63rd Street. The collision caused the ambulance to flip over and crash into two other cars.
A passenger who was inside the ambulance suffered minor injuries in the crash and was taken to the hospital in good condition. A passenger in the first sedan that was hit suffered minor injuries and the driver of the second sedan sustained an injury to their left arm.
The semi-driver and the ambulance driver were not injured in the incident.
The driver of the semi was issued a citation for failure to yield to an emergency vehicle.

Three Lakes firefighters gifted a ladder truck

Fire Chief Bob Canada trekked to Round Lake two months ago with fellow firefighters to inspect and pick up a ladder truck taken out of service by the Round Lake Fire District. The district’s board had made it known that they were decommissioning a truck that could be donated to a department that needed it, perfect timing for a Three Lakes crew that had recently taken its 36-year-old unit out of service.
The department had been looking at a 2006 truck that was priced at $350,000, far more than they could afford. That price was equal to the last new engine they purchased years ago.
As the department envisioned making the new equipment its own, along came the Three Lakes Tavern League with a $1,000 donation to get new vinyl graphics on the truck.
Three Lakes was the second department in Oneida County to get a ladder truck in 1988, when developers of the New Northernaire were required by the county, as part of its building permits, to provide the fire department with equipment capable of fighting a fire on a complex that was 35 feet in height.
