Harry,
2 Engines 181 & 182 had these mirrors they were at the time the only option according to Pierce . So that’s what they had on them. However when 183 was spec’d the mirror options had gotten better so the better mirrors were added. Driving with these it terrible. They are not like the lower cab mounted bus mirrors.

Mike, we chose to go to a different warning light setup on this engine and went with the east coast style 3 mini bars. In my opinion, there was better visibility from the front, sides and corners with that setup. The Whelen summit light bar on the front of the cab, and both sides on the body gave us better lighting when it came to illuminating the scene and or looking for addresses. The telescoping led’s we had on the previous engines above the pump panel only gave us a small vantage point with illuminating at night.
Harry, those mirrors you mentioned are a horrible design. We would have to stick our heads out the window to see what we were looking at. Switched to the regular side mounted mirrors on the last engine and truck. So much better. This is going to be a solid rig for the members. Very firefighter friendly. Good luck WFD with the new engine and upcoming new Midmount.

Great looking engine my favorite classic combination the “888” and the bell. ….

I like the 888 integrated into the grill, the Whelen Summit brow light, and the opticom integrated into the light bar. Now they need some LED headlights.
