bubbak, they always did. This is the first order they left them off. Money savings I’m guessing.

just question… why do Chicago Trucks not have a sign on the main like most other FD trucks do? Be a great place for Company logo.

Many years ago I looked into LED vehicle numbering such as used on transit busses. To use the smaller display that shows up to four digits would have been nearly $1,000 per fixture plus a controller unit. Not worth it.

Not a bad idea John. As long as they include the “NOT IN SERVICE” sign. They could use that slot to sell ads. Just like the CTA buses 🙂

Maybe they should get LED numbers like the Bus? lol

The rationale for the plates (agree or not) is when they have to switch to a spare to PM or other, they can just take the plate and switch it with the rest of the stuff. Currently they have magnetic plates which do not work well at all. They fall off, get lost, stolen etc. Thus they resort to white tape. This is a test to see how it works. The holders are held on with adhesive only, no screws or holes.

True, front line rigs numbers only change if they reassign an apparatus which only happens A few times at most in An apparatuses lifetime. Really only the spares should have the plates because those are the ones whose numbers change as they go in service at different companies.

Not a fan of the number plates on the doors makes no sense since the number decal is on the front anyway

It would be nice if they added a memorial to the 3 members who died on February 1, 1985 at the vicstar electronics arson

Why are they adding the diamond plate lip around the front bumper extenstion like the engines and towers? For stokes?
