We run four Alexis apparatus: 2001 pumper, 2008 pumper, 2014 commercial chassis rescue pumper, and a 2017 commercial chassis tanker. All are well built and serve us well. As a custom builder, Alexis is able to deliver solutions that our unique operations demand.
If you look closely at these picutres you will see a series of holes at each panel’s edge. That is because Alexis is now building with Stainless Steel and using fasteners versus welding in many area. You can still get aluminum if you desire.

Romeo, Alexis is a pretty big operation with apparatus used all over the US. They do not make there own chassis, hence why most are Spartens. Everything else is custom made according to the customers specs. While they do run a little bit cheaper than the big three (Pierce, Seagrave, E-One), the quality is pretty solid. They are also made in downstate ILL, which is a nice touch for local departments. At the end of the day the company is over 70 years old, so they are doing something right.

They build on a sub frame, just like every one else. Look on their web site for photos of trucks in progress. You can see the F.L.F.P.D. sub frame in the pic. Fox Lake has been a Alexis customer for a long time because Alexis builds what they ask for, not a cookie cutter truck.

Is that unusual on their body building technique? Weld it in place? Don’t the other manufacturers build it as a module then place it on the chassis? Is Alexis cheaper than everybody? The Spartan Chassis is provided for them and the body is welded on the truck. This looks like a cheap method. Looks something like out of a desk manufacturer. Can some of the truck guys inform me? Thanks
