Why is the front bumper so long

Brian and Austin – It is actually very common for the aerial to be one of the last pieces installed on a new truck. The torque box, outriggers, etc. go on then the body. I know for a fact that Pierce and Seagrave have the truck nearly complete before the ladder is installed.
Also I don’t see much weight in the rear end of the truck like some mention. If this truck has rear air ride, it’s possible the bags aren’t completely full.

We all have little junk hanging off the back

Oh by the way Lenscrafters has a sale on glasses. If you cant see it, its the gray strap between the officer and crew cab doors slung under the ladder in the third photo. Also when a gear ring has broken teeth, they lift the platform with the ladder on it without disconnecting any hoses or lines.

Look at the third photo above the officer door you will see the strap. Everything may be hooked up to the turntable but it might be slightly raise above the gear ring for the turntable. I have seen personally a ladder off the gear ring for repairs. plus there is to much overhang of the ladder over the cab.

I have to agree with Brian, the ladder is mounted way earlier in the process. It has to as it would be insanely hard to fish cables, wires, and everything else throughout the truck and compartments. I also don’t see where it is being held up in the last photo. It looks like it raised slightly, but under its own power, not a crane. I think it is just an illusion thefiremang, as none of the other photos look like it is being support from the gantry crane. Frankly I don’t even see it in the last pic.

Unless something drastic has changed in the building of aerials, the ladder gets mounted to the chassis before the body gets put on

Gentlemen if you look closely at the last picture you will see a sling holding up the ladder, I do not think the ladder is in its proper position and mounted. It appears the ladder has to go back further to the rear. If you look at the front of the truck you do not see the ladder pipe tip. Evidently the ladder is not mounted yet.

It looks like there are more storage compartments on the officers side than the drivers side. It does look like there is a lot of truck behind the rear wheels. I wonder if that will affect how it performs on the street?

looks like she is almost ready to be delivered

It looks ass heavy because there is a lot of truck behind the rear axles. You would think they would want the axles farther aft but that will also lengthen the turn radius. This set up is very similar to the HME towers that Chicago has that has a lot of truck behind the rear axles

Probably because it is.
Consider all of the equipment those things carry besides the ladder itself.

Why (for lack of a better term,) does that truck look ass-heavy?
