From approximately 15:45 hrs 08/06/16. Fully involved tractor-trailer in the 400 block of North Ave. in Carol Stream. Impressive header. Caught it after the fire was knocked. Companies on scene: Carol Stream BC 28, DC 28, Tower 28, Squad 27 and Engine 29. Wheaton Medic 37.

Guys they may have utilized the tower because of what load the trailer was carrying. This way you don’t put the fire suppression personnel at risk. They may have checked the manifest and seen there is dangerous products in trailer. Notice no firefighters are up close on trailer. Just a thought. Always easier to dump high gpm on it than a handline.

Dennis: no different than utilizing a tower ladder or snorkel basket at street level for a storefront. Better point of vantage and far more GPM’s than handlines. Plus they don’t have to waste time unloading all the contents to reach the seat of the fire.

maybe it makes sure the fire is out then I don’t know as for using a tl I know Morton il uses there tl for bruh fires

Just a guess but with a trailer, access is limited so used the tower to get at all the contents with the added pressure the tower has!?!

That’s the first time ive seen a serial device used on a vehicle fire. I wonder what the concern was that they didn’t use a hand line. Not criticizing just curious.
