It’s not that it’s in bad shape, it’s that it is due for replacement. It had a life span of 20 years, and it’s coming up on the end of its life expectancy.

Why did they need a new one? Was the old in bad shape….it always looked new. I never thought it got much use…

Looks like it is coming along nicely! Why did they decide to go with a non walk in?

Perhaps they assessed their own needs and how they use the squad and decided they didn’t need walk-in capabilities.

It’s not necessarily a jump company. Ladder 86 is staffed with 3 personnel at a time, and the other rigs aren’t staffed. Off duty firefighters will have pagers on and will be called to station if engine or squad 86 is due on a run. And they mostly use the walk in for equipment and as a small command center for haz-mat operations. I know with MABAS in place, they may not use it, but it’s still nice to have. (In my opinion)
I do know that having a four man cab with a non walk-in box is better for them then a 2 man can with a walk in box, but they can have different uses, though I do get what your saying and it is true.

Don’t need a walk through for what will be a 2 man (or probably at best 3 man,)
jump company.

Wonder why they’re not going with a walk-in box.
