This from Martin Nowak:
Went to the 2013 Chicago Auto Show on 2/12/2013 and saw these on display. The F-Series truck was at the show last year, so here’s a video from last year with it’s lights on: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q-NUdwbr8Co

ITASCA has three different cars at the show over the years. This one, The green one from last year and 2011 and a Black (unknown when it was at the show.)

Contrary to what you may think. Departments are not leasing these. The design is offered by Ford as an option at the time of purchase. I work in the puiblic safety vehicle upfitting business and have yet to hear of a single department leasing a vehicle from Ford.

The reason you’re seeing a lot of departments opting to use this paint scheme is a lot of departments are leasing the their vehicles instead of purchasing vehicles to save money..so all the department has to do is slap the town name under the huge police logo and they’re ready for the streets..

Dan, I agree with you. The design on the two Fords lacks creativity and for those departments that have this design in their new units, shame on them for not being creative with their designs.

All personal opinions here, but not a fan of the new Fords. Especially with the new “Police” sceme smeared across the whole side. One of the Barringtons has one of these and it just reminds me of a big Snickers bar or something… the lettering is even bigger. They had nice silver vehicles with dark blue lettering. Now it looks like they just slapped their name on a matchbox car. It just seems like the whole pride in how you look is going by the wayside. Same with the black rims, it reminds me of all the cheap cars out there that lose all thier hubcaps. It’s a big change from the last line of Explorers, which I thought were some of the best looking yet.
