Chicago Fire Department history

This from Austin Lawler:

I came across this slide show of some of the different dogs at CFD firehouses, on the Vintage Tribune instagram page. I thought maybe some of the readers would find this interesting.

The Chicago Fire Department announced today that it will no longer allow dogs at firehouses after a firehouse dog killed a family pet near a fire station. In remembrance, VintageTribune pulled together photos from years past of firehouse dogs and their firefighter owners.

I came across yet another interesting photo of the CFD. I for one had no clue there was an award given to a fire dog. Anyway, I hope everyone enjoys this unusual gem.

Hello, I came across another old photo of the CFD on vintage tribune’s Instagram page. This one was at Riccardo’s restaurant.

Have a good day,

Original caption alert: Soon the only “snorting steeds” that will rush forth from Chicago fire houses at the sound of the gong will be the kind that feed on gasoline. Engine company No. 11 is the last station to be motorized. Dobbin, the horse at left, and his mate, Tip Top, have been ordered sold, circa 1923. It will be hard parting, for the horses are more than mere working companions. Left to right are Fireman James F. Kelly, Lieut. William Both, and Fireman Frank O Leary. #vintagechicago
