Excerpts from wjol.com:
The Plainfield Fire Protection District received a $1,000 grant to purchase Cyanokits for treatment of cyanide poisoning. The kits will be used to treat people exposed to cyanide through smoke inhalation. Cyanide poisoning may disable the body’s ability to use oxygen and without treatment death can result within minutes of exposure. The cyanide antidote works by binding to cyanide making it nontoxic and allowing the body to use oxygen again. The Plainfield Fire Protection District received this grant from the Illinois American Water 2018 Firefighter Grant Program.

Excerpts from the herald-news.com:
The Plainfield Fire Protection District recently received a plaque from State Fire Marshal Matt Perez for achieving an Insurance Services Office 1 rating – something only 0.5 percent of fire departments across the nation are able to accomplish. It is the best rating a department can receive. The district is the 17th department in the state to receive the rating.
The rating was determined through an evaluation process that focused on the district’s fire suppression capabilities, emergency communications capabilities, municipal water supply capabilities and the district’s efforts in community risk reduction.
Numerous insurance companies use the rating to determine property insurance rates for residential, commercial and industrial properties.
