Lake Zurich Fire Department news (more)

Excerpts from the ChicagoTribune.com:

On May 1, the Lake Zurich Village Board unanimously approved a new contract with the International Association of Firefighters 3191, granting local firefighters and paramedics salary hikes of 2 percent on May 1; 2 percent in 2018; 2 percent in 2019 and 2.5 percent in 2020.

But the salary increases were the only substantial change both parties agreed to in the new contract, according to Lake Zurich Fire Chief John Malcolm and union president Jason Henriksen.

Because the village changed its fiscal year to align with the calendar year, the first salary increase of the contract will be effective from May 1 through the end of 2017.

The other increases will be effective for each of the subsequent calendar years. The 46-member union approved the contract unanimously.

Malcolm said negotiations were easy. And both sides said they were pleased with the final contract.

In April, the board approved a contract with Lake Zurich Fraternal Order of Police 190-1 for the same length and with the same pay hikes.

Lake Zurich Fire Department news

Excerpts from the Dailyherald.com:

Lake Zurich firefighters have received a new 3½-year contract with annual raises.

By a 6-0 vote, village trustees Monday night ratified their end of the deal with the International Association of Firefighters union. Firefighters previously approved the agreement.

Under the contract that became effective Monday, firefighters receive a 2 percent raise for the rest of this year. They’ll also get 2 percent raises to start 2018 and 2019 and 2.5 percent on Jan. 1, 2020.

A firefighter-paramedic on the low end of the wage scale receiving a $60,683 salary currently will be up to $66,007 annually in the contract’s final year. On the upper end, a lieutenant-paramedic will go from $107,893 to $117,359, according to the contract.

Lake Zurich’s contract with the firefighters came about a month after the village board approved a 3½-year union deal with the same annual salary hikes for police officers.
