Excerpts from the ChicagoTribune.com:
Firefighters folded an American flag outside a fire-damaged Libertyville home Tuesday at the scene of a house fire in the 500 block of Fairhill Road.
Grayslake firefighter/paramedics Mike Higgins, Ian Mandigo and Ryan Schaefer removed the flag from the front of the home after Countryside Fire Protection District Chief Jeff Steingart told the men to take down the flag because it was in the way.
“Out of respect for the flag, we started to fold it,” Higgins said. “We had it nice and tight … we wanted to give it back to the homeowner that way.”
Jeff Rudolph posted the photo of the firefighters folding the flag on Facebook.
“They could have left it hanging and it probably would have gotten torn down by crews walking in and out or they could have removed it and just balled it up and set it somewhere, but they knew the respect the flag deserved. They went the extra step … in a day and age when many disrespect our flag, the members of our nation’s fire service always respect and honor what that flag means.”
thanks Dan

The second McCook, IL Seagrave has been found. This 1982 Seagrave 1250/500, former Engine 1411, is for sale at a used car lot in Lake Villa. You may remember the 79′ is now owned by the Lake Forest Fire Department as a parade unit.

Around 8 pm reports of a house on fire in the 2800 block of Glenarye Dr. in Lindenhurst began flooding FoxCom dispatch. Lake Villa FPD units arrived to find a large, two-story home well-involved. Companies went defensive and protected exposures on both sides. Mutual aid from Antioch, Gurnee, and Newport arrived to assist, but with a combination of the high winds, extreme cold temps, and the body of fire found on arrival, the home was a total loss. Exposures on either side recieved minor damage. Jeff Rudolph

Spring Grove, IL – McHenry County FPD responded to a fire at 6316 Johnsburg rd. Due in part to the size of the structure and the lack of hydrants in the area, command upgraded to the Box and eventually up to the third alarm for tenders. The fire was quickly knocked down and kept from extending into the residence. Jeff Rudolph
Excerpts from the Northwest Herald:
No one was injured in a fire that caused easily more than $100,000 in damage to a Spring Grove home Sunday afternoon. The Spring Grove Fire Protection District responded at 2:26 p.m. Sunday to 6316 Johnsburg Road where
first responders(firefighters) found flames shooting out of the roof and windows of an attached tool shed, Chief Richard Tobiasz said.About 15 fire departments from Lake and McHenry counties as well as Wisconsin helped put out the fire, which had extended into the main house, a large converted dairy barn … it took less than an hour for crews to get the fire under control.
The home is located in an area without fire hydrants, so tankers were dispatched to the water tower in Spring Grove to bring back water, he said.
The owner had been heating up some cooking oil in the tool shed when he went back in the house and may have fallen asleep, Tobiasz said. A neighbor saw the fire, got into the house and woke up the owner and his two adult sons.
The first floor and the tool shed suffered fire damage, and smoke damage extended onto the second floor where the bedrooms are, he said, adding the house is not a total loss and potentially could be rebuilt.
