11/18/2020 – Beach Park,IL
A homeowner was burning leaves when they blew onto the deck and up against the vinyl sided house. First arriving companies found heavy fire to the exterior of the home communicating inside, and into a detached garage. Command upgraded to the working still, and then to a Box Alarm. Crews were unable to make a safe interior attack. Two dogs reported inside the home, got out safely.

10/30/2020Zion responded to a report of a basement fire, with the caller still inside the house looking for her dog. Crews arrived to find heavy smoke showing, and the caller outside the home, with no dog. Command ungraded to the working still, and then to box 18-1 to the first alarm. Then dog was reunited with its owners. Fire extended into the attic, and eventually through the roof. Jeff Rudolph

9/28/20 – North Chicago 0504 hrsBox 15-1 to the Box level for a well-involved house at 2330 Lewis Av. The house appeared to be vacant, and for sale.Jeff Rudolph

Beach Park, Newport, Zion, and Pleasant Prairie,WI assisted Winthrop Harbor for a large garage fire at 207 Oakdale Ave. Zion 1811 was first in and found smoke with no visible flames from a metal pole barn garage. Crews found fire in the rafters, but had some difficulty gaining entry due to heavy storage inside the garage. Command ungraded to the Working Still, bringing Great Lakes, and Gurnee to the scene.Jeff Rudolph

08/24/20 – Night two of protests in Kenosha,WI led to several business looted and set ablaze. The largest was several storefronts along 22nd av. Kenosha activated a MABAS response to the 5th alarm Bringing in several Illinois departments, most sat in the staging area most of the night, but crews from Zion, Newport, Gurnee, and several others were put to work. Gurnee’s new Engine 1322, 2019 E-One, had to be placed into service for a few days due to 2 engines needing repairs this week.Jeff R

05/27/1936000 blk of Deer View ct. in Gurnee. Appears to have been an outside fire that burned the vinyl siding and extended slightly into the garage and house.

Four employees of a Waukegan chemical plant were hospitalized and another three were reported missing following an explosion late Friday that was heard and felt across Lake County around 9:45 p.m.
Waukegan Fire Marshal Steve Lenzi reported that first arriving crews were quickly overwhelmed by flames at the AB Specialty Silicones plant at 3790 Sunset Ave., which is on the city’s far northwest side near its border with Gurnee.
Fire personnel from Waukegan plus departments in Lake and Cook counties including hazardous materials crews and structural collapse technicians were involved with both fighting the fire and searching for the missing employees.
